Community Commitment


As a not-for-profit health system, John Muir Health is committed to improving the health of the communities we serve with quality and compassion.   

John Muir Health community benefit programs are directed towards the following vision:

  • All community members achieve and maintain optimal physical and mental health
  • Children succeed in school and reach their full potential
  • Community members are economically independent and have access to adequate, affordable housing
  • Neighbourhoods are safe
  • Violence, discrimination, and injustice are eliminated
  • The air and water are clean, safe, and sufficient
  • Community members are civically engaged and connected to their community

Responsibilities
  • Conduct a triennial Community Health Needs Assessment to identify unmet needs in the community
  • Develop a Community Benefit Plan & Implementation Strategy that is responsive to the identified community health needs
  • Manage a grant-making and funding portfolio to support community-based partner organizations 
  • Bring together potential partners, including health care providers, public agencies, schools, religious leaders, community-based organizations, and other service organizations
  • Develop collaborative solutions based on community needs
  • Participate, where appropriate, in the implementation of community-based program solutions and provide direct services
  • Evaluate community health initiatives for continual improvement and highest impact
